Sincere Implementation of a powerful practice
All practices have to be advanced with caution and understanding. Yoga Nidra is a science and uses the makeup of our body and mind to cause wanted effects and train us on a holistic level. A Yoga Nidra Course is recommended to learn how to enter the sleep of the Yogis and how to apply the methods correctly. With the right approach you can advance on your Yoga Nidra journey and use it for your own needs and your personal growth. The practices are very powerful, so an incorrect used of these yogic techniques can bring distortions into body and mind. But with dedicated and personalized holistic practice, you can use Yoga Nidra to take care of a great many health challenges.
Yoga Nidra enhances concentration and mental skills
The mental training in Yoga Nidra is improving focus (Dharana) and controlled processing of external sensory input (Pratyahara). It is a perfect preparatory technique for Meditation as the mind learns to stay with one object. You don´t get distracted easily, neither in conversations, studying or meditation practices. The increased attention towards our object of interest helps us manifesting our reality after our will. With more awareness our everyday experiences are enriched and live intensifies.
Yoga Nidra clears the mind
The silence of sensory processing is very well known to meditators who know they reached a deeper layer when time and space vanish. The mind lays bare and clear not burdened with any worldly luggage. In Yoga Nidra practice you learn to switch off the processing of sensory information by will, by surrendering that part of you towards relaxation. The mind becomes very clear and higher cognitive processes are more easily performed.
Yoga Nidra diminishes sleeping disorders
In Yoga Nidra we lie down on the ground and shield our eyes with a dark cloth. This induces a natural emission of melatonin- a sleeping hormone- into our bloodstream. In people with sleeping disorders these natural pathways can be impaired and keep them awake despite being tired. During the sequenced relaxation we help our brain to shut off regions that are needed to perform physical actions. We influence our physiology by breath and awareness, relaxing in a sequenced manner. Bit by bit we put ourselves to sleep, a yogic sleep with awareness. Learning to control the process of falling asleep is a huge help to counter sleeping disorders, whether you struggle with falling asleep or sleeping through.
Yoga Nidra helps with Nightmares and sleep paralysis
When we fall asleep, we lose awareness of ourselves and our surroundings. During the REM (rapid-eye-movement)-phase of the sleep, we experience dreams. By training Yoga Nidra we can learn to remain conscious during that process and enter a lucid state. Lucid dreaming can be very helpful to tackle nightmares and reoccurring horrors, as well as sleep paralysis. In the clear state of dreams, you can use the image language of the subconscious mind to dive deep int yourself.
Yoga Nidra reduces stress
Stress has become an everyday companion in modern lives. Whereas spikes in stress levels can give us the right impulse to grow, improve get stronger, long-term exposure to elevated stress levels is extremely unhealthy. Most degenerative diseases are caused by stress (Read Study). To reduce stress is imperative but also to learn how to deal with stress when it arises. If external or internal stressor may be the cause of your discomfort, with Yoga Nidra you learn to control the physiology of your body and direct the mind and emotions into the wanted direction.

Yoga Nidra reduces blood pressure levels
The causes for high blood pressure are many. Malnutrition, overweight, lack of motion, hormonal disorders and stress can cause increased blood pressure levels. External causes can be handled quite easily by changing nutrition and movement. The inner imbalances, mental tension and physiological habits are more difficult to grasp. A finer technique is needed. With Yoga Nidra our system can re-learn to balance itself back into harmony. The induced relaxation of body and mind lowers the blood pressure (as well as blood sugar) levels. The effects prolong after the practice and the body can establish a healthy blood pressure over longer period of time.
Yoga Nidra improves the immune function
We all carry a lot of exhaustion around in our mind and body. The accumulated stress reduces the ability of the body to recover and heal. The detoxification processes are slowed down and fending off pathogens is heavily impaired. We get ill easily and feel at low energy levels most of the time. The effects on the mind are inevitable, so we become sadder and uninspired with proceeding time. Yoga Nidra allows the detoxification to enhance by oxygenate all body tissues. The relaxation triggers the parasympathetic nervous system to get active and start healing processes, from closing wounds to detecting errors in our DNA. The lymphatic flow and overall immune function increase strongly. We can recover faster and regain our energy.
Yoga Nidra harmonizes Hormone levels
Problems with hormone levels have become more frequent over the last few decades. The effects are various and are mostly treated by hormone therapy. The cause for the problem is rarely found. From menses pain, infertility, metabolic disorders to mental disturbances the symptoms are severe and very different (digestion problems, thyroid gland, pancreas, gall bladder, liver…). When the glands in our body do not work in concert anymore, we have overall effects to deal with. By allowing our autonomous nervous system to balance and harmonize the same will happen to the glands and our hormone levels. All hormonal disturbances can be alleviated by integrating Yoga Nidra into your routine.

Yoga Nidra improves digestion
In Yoga Nidra diaphragmatic breathing is applied. In the Yoga Nidra Online Course, I integrate a breathing technique as preparation to ready the biochemistry for the auspicious practice of the Yogic sleep. The movement of the main breathing muscle massages our abdominal organs and helps the digestion process. The peristaltic movement is enhanced as well as the secretion of digestive juice. The hormonal balancing helps to alleviate any hormone related disorders and the activation of the parasympathetic nervous system sets us into the “rest and digest” mode.
Yoga Nidra reduces tension

Today muscle tension in the shoulders and the neck are very common phenomena that almost every person has had some experiences with. Overall, the spine holds a lot of strain due to immobility and harmful working positions but also to inner tension stemming from the mind. Tension can be divided into two different varieties. One is due to too much energy in the muscle, thus is tenses up. The other is due to weakness; the exhausted muscle triggers other muscles to tense and hold the position despite the lack of energy. The latter is more common in modern times.
In Yoga Nidra, you start with a sequenced relaxation where you release the tension from the mind and the nerves stop sending the activating information to the muscles.
Yoga Nidra can be used as Trauma treatment
Not only our mind but the whole-body stores memories. Some memories cannot get processed adequately and keep on vibrating as programming information in a disturbing way. We call these frozen memories trauma. Trauma can happen on a physical as well as on a mental way and integrate in both-body and mind. Mostly we are unaware of these programs but with Yoga Nidra practices we can open up the door to the subconscious and heal trauma that we carried with us for long time. Scars and old wound can heal, but also emotional and psychological trauma can get processed, find its place and rest.
Yoga Nidra helps with mental disorders
While a person goes through something intense in life, often mental disorders are diagnosed. In times of intense stress, we might not feel loke ourselves even or know the right way to betterment. These are strong imbalances in a delicate system of the mind which owns different compartments and qualities. As the body, the mind can get injured, get ill, be weak or strong and most of all-can heal. Releasing trauma, giving space to undigested emotions and experiences can allow our mental framework to find its centre again. When the mind is ill often the glands in our brain do not function well. The harmonization of glands and hormone levels can help to counter the psychological effects of an imbalanced brain physiology. Improvement of mood, resilience and clearness are impressive effects of Yoga Nidra practices.
